چکیده
Turbulent heat transfer in buoyancy-dominated flows is a challenging problem for computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Many authors attribute model error these conditions to the Reynolds analogy. We leverage brand-new direct numerical simulation database evaluate performance of several popular turbulence models buoyant diabatic channel flow. find that results are relatively accurate, with Nusselt number less than 20%. However, turbulent flow solution very inaccurate, wall shear overpredicted by up 100%. This indicates significant such flows. determined dominant sources missing physics algebraic stress framework and simple buoyancy production term used industrial CFD. suggest future modeling efforts focus on two error. demonstrate analogy not source

Assessment of Turbulence Models for Turbulent Flow over Backward Facing Step
Predication of reattachment length of separated shear layers in low Reynolds number turbulent flow is a challenging task to evaluate the capabilities of different turbulence models, especially for MEMS applications. Physical significances of backward facing step and its industrial applications were discussed. Flow analysis of backward facing step in 2D as well as in 3D were carried out by using...

This course material is used in two courses in the International Master’s programmeAppliedMechanics at Chalmers. The two courses are TME225 Mechanics of fluids (Chapters 1-10), and MTF270 Turbulence Modeling (Chapters 11-27). MSc students who follow these courses are supposed to have taken one basic course in fluid mechanics. The lecture notes are also used in the three-day course Unsteady Simu...
متن کاملFlow Modulation by Finite-Size Neutrally Buoyant Particles in a Turbulent Channel Flow
A fully mesoscopic, multiple-relaxation-time (MRT) lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is developed to perform particle-resolved direct numerical simulation (DNS) of wallbounded turbulent particle-laden flows. The fluid–solid particle interfaces are treated as sharp interfaces with no-slip and no-penetration conditions. The force and torque acting on a solid particle are computed by a local Galilean...
